Moira Frith

Moira is a self-taught artist and illustrator, with a professional background in natural history and conservation. She has always been drawn to plants and animals, and in particular the organic shapes and variety of form and colour found in nature.

After having her first daughter in 2015 she began to explore these elements visually. She works largely in watercolour and describes her approach as ‘drawing with paint’. She lives in the North East of England with her partner Stephen (a printmaker and lecturer in illustration) and daughters Agnes and Frida.

Moira has exhibited work in London and New York and has worked in collaboration with high profile clients including Toast, Anthropologie and The New York Review of Books.

The work Moira is showing in the Southover Gallery Spring Show is inspired by the strong folk tradition in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Moira’s local pub, The Cumberland Arms, often hosts folk dancers and musicians and this sparked an exploration of dance, performance and characters in watercolour.
