The Southover Gallery.

A 1970’s Lewes gallery, reimagined.

Upon moving into our Pink House in January 2024, we were excited to learn via a treasure trail of clues, that our new home was once a vibrant gallery. A hand painted sign discovered in the garden shed and some ruby red Peggy Angus wallpaper that appeared from behind a bookcase, were the first hints of a magnificent history.

The woman behind it all was Deirdre Bland, the famous model turned gallerist, who ran the gallery between 1973 and 1987. Deirdre succeeded in bringing together acclaimed artists of the day from Duncan Grant to Quentin Bell and Julian Trevelyan, treating her guests to whirlwind parties and raucous supper clubs while she sold art like hot cakes.

36 years after Deirdre’s acclaimed Farewell Exhibition brought together her final curation of artists, we are thrilled to relaunch her beloved Southover Gallery as a hybrid space for resident exhibitions, creative collaborations, inspiring events, private stays, bed and breakfast, reiki healing and our own line of curious antiques.

We hope you will enjoy all the creativity to come from those who gather inside the Pink House.
