Southover Gallery. The 1970’s Lewes gallery, reimagined.

After moving in January 2024, we were excited to learn (via a treasure trail of clues including Peggy Angus “red dragon” wallpaper hiding behind bookshelves and an old gallery sign unearthed in the shed) that our new home was once a vibrant gallery.

The woman behind it all was Deidre Bland, the famous model turned gallerist, who ran the gallery between 1973 and 1987. She succeeded in bringing together exciting artists of the day from Eric Ravilious and Duncan Grant to Quentin Bell and Julian Trevelyan and treated her guests to whirlwind parties and raucous supper clubs, all the while selling art like hot cakes.

36 years after Deidre’s acclaimed Farewell Exhibition brought together her final curation of artists, we are thrilled to relaunch her beloved Southover Gallery as a hybrid space for resident exhibitions, creative collaborations, inspiring events, private stays, bed and breakfast, reiki healing and our own line of objects of curiosity

We hope you will enjoy all the creativity to come from those who gather inside.
